What To Look For In A Photographer

7 Things To Look For In A Family Photographer

1. Make Sure They Guarantee Their Work!

This is a big one, so I put it first. And honestly, it’s one of the most difficult policies to find among other Las Vegas photographers and studios. Well, if you are not THRILLED beyond expectations – if you don’t get a little misty-eyed when you look at the photographs ‘I will give you all your money back.’

No kidding, if you are not completely satisfied with your photographs, I will either create additional images for you at no charge, or I will cheerfully refund all your money.  I am absolutely committed to creating the finest portraits you have ever had created. That’s why I have a 100% guarantee for all to see posted on my website.

2. The Photographer Must Meet With You Personally BEFORE The Photographs FOR FREE

This is such an important step and there are only a handful of photographers in America who do this, and I DON’T CHARGE YOU FOR IT!  I will meet with you before the session day to help you choose clothing, talk about location, help you with questions about hair and makeup, etc.

All of these things are so important to the creation of a great photograph and insures you and your family will look perfect in your portraits! You see, a beautiful family portrait is much like interior decorating for your home. It would be like choosing a color to paint the walls when you don’t know what the furniture or flooring looks like.

Any photographer who claims he or she can just ‘plunk’ you and your family down and snap a few pictures and expect them to come out great, is NOT a good photographer.

Well, you are not on an assembly line here. Your family is unique and unlike any other family on Earth and your photographs should reflect that. This planning session also gives me the opportunity to spend time getting to know you better and this helps me create a portrait that is truly about you and what’s important to you.

3. Make Sure Your Photographer Uses A Professional Enhancement Artist

I have one of the best enhancement artists who works directly with me to enhance every photograph I create. Let me tell you, this goes SO FAR beyond ‘digital retouching’ where a computer guy goes in and removes blemishes or touches up wrinkles with a spiffy software program.  This is so much more.  AT NO EXTRA

CHARGE, we will have our personal artist go over every inch of your portraits to give them added dimension.  And the best thing is no one will EVER be able to tell that any enhancement was done This one important step can take a good photograph and make it absolutely perfect.  Our artist has been with us for many years -and is one of the best in the industry.

4.  Natural Expressions Are Never Achieved When Your Photographer Tells You To ‘Say Cheese’

I not only focus (no pun intended) on my photography skills, but I’ve also mastered ways of working with subjects to get the best and most natural expressions practically every time.’ We’ve all seen photographs where the subjects looked fake and posed – and those photographs never look good.

Why have a family photograph created if your family doesn’t look natural?  There are a number of ways to insure that each of your family members look their best in the photographs.  And, I’ll give you a hint, none of those ways include making any of your family members ‘say cheese.’

5.  A Photographer Should Do NO MORE Than 2 Sessions A Day

I will only do a MAXIMUM of two On-Location Family Portrait Session per day.  What does this mean to you?  It means that I will never be rushing to get your session done so I can move on to the next.  Your photographs will be perfect, because I devote all my time and focus to your family.’

This is so important!  Many Las Vegas photographers try to cram 5 to 10 sessions into one day!  That’s crazy!  They have about enough time to set up a couple lights, quickly pose your family, snap a few images, then fly out the door on their way to the next session.  I made the decision years ago that I wasn’t going to work that way.  You get my undivided attention, and I’m not going to be rushing off to do another session, leaving you and your family with less-than-perfect portraits.

My father taught me – ‘anything worth doing is worth doing right.’  I believe that 100%, and that’s why I’d rather do one great session a day, rather than 10 ‘okay’ sessions.  It’s a matter of pride.  You are trusting me with your family’s memories.  I take that responsibility VERY seriously.

6.You Should Be Able To Have Your Photograph Created ANYWHERE You Like, At NO Extra Charge

How personal is a photograph of your family going to be if it’s not created in a location that is significant to you? I can’t remember the last time I actually photographed a family in my studio. A beautiful location adds so much more personality  and mood to your portrait.

Can you imagine that instead of having your family crammed into a dark studio, with a the same old standard, painted background that everybody uses – you and your family are all gathered at the lake or in the mountains, the golf course or in your perfectly manicured backyard or your favorite room in your home? That photograph now has a new life to it!

We are fortunate to have access to so many beautiful locations for outdoor portraiture and if you’re not sure where you would like to have your photographs taken, I’ll be happy to give you some fantastic ideas.

7.  Find Out Why Your Photographer Became A Photographer

Because of my own family, I understand how important these photographs will be to you. When I was growing up, my parents never had a nice family photograph created.  Both of my parents have since passed away and fortunately I have one photograph of the two of them together, which I created years ago.  That photograph is my pride and joy.  It sits right on my desk, and I look at it every single day.  I only wish we’d had a photograph of all of us together.

You see, I understand how much these photographs are going to mean to you and for that reason I feel I have a huge responsibility to make them perfect.  I didn’t get into photography because it seemed like a surefire way to make money.  I got into photography because of my love for the art of photography, the love for my family, and a love for helping other families capture the memories that will last a lifetime.
